Cameroon to Sydney: Toghu Marathoner Begins Mission to Help Local Athletes Reach World Marathon Majors
er simply to complete marathons, break records, or collect medals. It was to prove that a person from Cameroon could stand on the world’s biggest stages, carry their culture with pride, and use that platform to create opportunities for others.
Over the years, that vision became reality.
From Tokyo to Boston, London to Berlin, Antarctica to Mount Kilimanjaro, the Toghu Marathoner journey has inspired people around the world. Along the way came the Abbott World Marathon Majors Six Star Medal, a Guinness World Record, and the privilege of serving as a cultural ambassador for Cameroon on six continents and beyond.
Today, the mission enters a new chapter.
For the first time, the Toghu Marathoner initiative is helping open international marathon opportunities for other Cameroonian athletes.
Leading that next generation are Wirba Marygrace and Foimi Justilin, two talented runners preparing to represent Cameroon at the 2026 TCS Sydney Marathon, one of the prestigious Abbott World Marathon Majors.
Their participation represents something much larger than a single race.
They represent a future where talented African athletes are not limited by geography, access, or opportunity. They represent a future where Cameroonian runners can confidently take their place alongside the world’s best.
But they are also carrying another mission.
As members of the next generation of Autism Awareness Champions, Marygrace and Justilin are joining a movement that uses sport as a platform for inclusion, understanding, and hope.
Inspired by the journey of the Toghu Marathoner’s daughter, Verma, and the work of AMOM Foundation in supporting children with autism and neurodivergent needs, these athletes will run not only for personal achievement but for a greater purpose.
They will run to compete.
They will run to represent Cameroon.
They will run to inspire future athletes.
And they will run to raise awareness for autism and neurodiversity on a global stage.
This initiative marks the beginning of a long-term vision to develop future Abbott World Marathon Majors Six Star Finishers from Cameroon while building a network of athlete ambassadors who use their platforms to create positive social impact.
For years, supporters helped carry the Toghu Marathoner journey from a dream to a global movement.
Now, that same community has an opportunity to help launch the journeys of others.
Every contribution helps provide travel support, athlete preparation, accommodation, race logistics, and international exposure for these athletes as they prepare for Sydney 2026.
Together, we can show the world that Cameroon produces not only great runners, but great ambassadors, advocates, and leaders.
